Improving the hiring of people with convictions
There needs to be sweeping change in how employers hiring people with convictions; too often are hirers looking for the prototype candidate, with the prototype background. People with varied backgrounds ultimately bring great life experience and skills to the workplace.
The Better Hiring Institute, its collaborators and employer network, have committed to bringing together advice for employers on how best to recruit people with criminal records, and where to go to seek further technical advice. The guide aims to create a future where people with convictions are not treated as second class job seekers, but are afforded the same opportunity as everyone else, with the exception of a small minority of situations.
The guidance brings together leading UK experts and UK government as a UK first, working in collaborations with Reed Screening, Disclosure & Barring Service, Disclosure Scotland, CIPD Trust, Nacro, Offploy, Working Chance, and Unlock, amongst wider endorsement from various parliamentarians.
